Feather Peak, 13,240 ft
On April 9, 2005, We went to ski Feather peak in the Sierras. It is
up the Pine creek, kind of back into the back country.
Anne Laure, Dan, Eric, Jernej, Alan, Stuart and me headed up to
the Honey moon lake to camp for the first night
Anne Laure, Jernej, Alan and Stuart crossing some nice part.
The ski up to the Pine lake was very scenic.
But strenuous, so we had a small apetizer in the way.
Once in the Honey moon lake, we camp and
were happily surprised to discover the best slope of the Sierras was just
in front of us.
It had epic powder. One of the more daring members of the group
was willing to offer his first born kid in trade of skiing that bitching
run.
We got up it and this is how it looked from the top.We had to do it
twice.
What an abuse!
Our camp.
On the next day we headed towards Feather.Eric
and Stuart a the Royce lakes col.
Crossing the Royce lake was such a high, it looked like Antartica up
there.
Once in the couloir, we were greated with several feets of powder. since
the couloir was a bit steep for that much powder,
we digged a pit to test the stability, and the result was: GOOD.
We went up the couloir.
Smilling the way up, thinking about the good conditions for the descent.
If you would have been there, you would have liked too!.
The top part was 45 degrees of pack snow, so we boot it up.
The top was very, very cool. That is Alan and Eric topping out.
Hesitating before dropping..
Yeap!!
The descent was epic. I forgot about taking pics...
From the botton of the couloir, we still had endless runs with really
good powder, giving the altitude.
By the Royce lakes, Jernej took some time to jump a cornice, which rigorous
analysis showed to be 20 ft.
And we got out of there. This is the hole group.
A realy good tour, after all.
